Classification of Copper Nickel Flange Forging
The forging process can be classified according to the forming method and the deformation temperature. In terms of the forming method, the process can be classified as forging and stamping while in terms of the deformation temperature, it can be classified as hot, cold, warm and isothermal forging and stamping, etc.
Hot Forging
Hot forging is conducted above the recrystallization temperature of the metal, which improves its ductility as well as the inner quality of the parts, making it unlikely to crack. The high temperature can also reduce the resistance of deformation, which can reduce the necessary capacity of the forging equipment.

However, the hot forging process has complicated procedures and the parts have low precision and coarse surfaces and are also vulnerable to oxidation, decarburization and burning loss.
Cold Forging
Cold forging is conducted below the recrystallization temperature of the metal and is usually referred to as the forging and stamping process conducted in normal temperature while the process conducted between normal temperature and the recrystallization temperature is called warm forging and stamping. The parts manufactured through warm forging and stamping enjoys high dimensional precision and smooth surfaces as well as relatively low resistance of deformation. And the parts manufactured through cold forging and stamping under normal temperature also enjoy high dimensional precision and smooth surfaces while few machining procedures are involved, which makes the method suitable for automated production. Many cold forged and cold stamps parts can be directly used without the need of addition machining. However, during the cold forging process, due to low plasticity of metal, the material may be vulnerable to cranks during deformation and due to the high resistance of deformation, high capacity forging and stamping equipment is required.
Isothermal Forging
Isothermal forging and stamping is the method when the temperature of the stock remains constant during the entire forming process. This method is designed to fully utilize the high plasticity property of certain metal under certain temperature or to acquire certain microstructure and performance.

Due to the fact that in the isothermal forging and stamping process, both the mold and the stock need to be kept at the same constant temperature, the cost is relatively high and therefore this method is only used for special forging and stamping processes, such as superplastic forming.
