    Copper Nickel Socket Weld Flanges

    Copper Nickel Socket Weld flanges were initially developed for use on small-size high pressure piping.

    Their static strength is equal to Slip On flanges, but their fatigue strength 50% greater than double-welded Slip On flanges.

    The connection with the pipe is done with one fillet weld, at the outside of the flange. But before welding, a space must be created between flange or fitting and pipe.

    Shihang copper nickel socket flange ’s basic shape is the same as copper nickel slip on flanges. That is, a certain bore hole is formed in the inner hole of the 90/10 copper nickel flange shipbuilding.

    Copper Nickel Threaded Flanges

    Copper Nickel threaded flange is the flange of the hole into the pipe thread, and with a threaded pipe supporting the realization of the connection, it is a non-welded flange.

    Compared with butt weld flange , slip on flange and socket weld flange ,the installation of threaded flange is easier ,it can be allowed to use in some of non-welding pipe line. The most common threaded type is bspt & npt .However, it is advisable not to use threaded flanges in the event of a sudden change in pipe temperature or a temperature above 260 ° C below -45 ° C to avoid leakage.

    Shihang copper nickel threaded flanges are made by machining the inner bore of a flange into a pipe thread, and are connected to a threaded pipe to make a connection.

    The high quality copper nickel flange forging process usually consists of the following procedures, including the selection of high-quality steel stock for blanking, heating, forming, and cooling after forging.

    The method of forging can be classified as

    • open-die drop forging,
    • impression-die forging and
    • loose tooling forging.

     

     

    Different copper nickel flange forging methods are selected according to the mass of the forged parts as well as the manufacturing quantity.

    Open-die drop forging has a relatively low production rate and high machining allowances but can be completed through relatively simple tools which are mostly universal.

    Therefore, it is widely used for the forging of parts with relatively simple shapes in small numbers.

    The manufacturing equipment for open-die drop forging includes the pneumatic hammer, the steam-air hammer as well as the hydraulic press, which are suitable for the forging of parts with small, medium and large sizes respectively.

    2. Drawing out is the procedure when the stock material is lengthened and its cross- sectional area is decreased. It is often used in the manufacturing of shafts, such as lathe spindles, and connecting rods.
    3. Piercing is the procedure when the stock material is pierced and thorough or non-thorough holes are created.
    4. Bending is the procedure when the stock material is bended by a certain angle or into a certain shape.

    1. The fundamental procedures of the impression-die forging include: blanking, heating, pre-forging, finish-forging.

    Procedures such as upsetting, drawing out, bending, piercing and forming are often adopted.

    1. Equipment such as die forging hammer, hot die forging press, horizontal forging and upsetting machine and friction press are often adopted for the impression-die process.

    Copper Nickel Forged Flanges Characteristics

    Compared to the cast parts, the microstructure and mechanical properties of metal can be improved through forging.

    Such kind of pressure is achieved typically through a hammer or a press. During the forging process, delicate grain structure can be constructed, which improves the physical properties of the metal.

    In real-life applications, an appropriate design should align the grains with the main compressive force.

    The cast parts are metal objects created through all kinds of casting processes, when the molten metal created through smelting is poured, injected or sucked into a casting mould and then cooled down, which generates certain shapes, dimensions and mechanical properties after procedures such as shakeout, cleaning and after treatment.

    Hot forging is conducted above the recrystallization temperature of the metal, which improves its ductility as well as the inner quality of the parts, making it unlikely to crack.     However, the hot forging process has complicated procedures and the parts have low precision and coarse surfaces and are also vulnerable to oxidation, decarburization and burning loss.

     

    Cold Forging

    Cold forging is conducted below the recrystallization temperature of the metal and is usually referred to as the forging and stamping process conducted in normal temperature while the process conducted between normal temperature and the recrystallization temperature is called warm forging and stamping. The parts manufactured through warm forging and stamping enjoys high dimensional precision and smooth surfaces as well as relatively low resistance of deformation. And the parts manufactured through cold forging and stamping under normal temperature also enjoy high dimensional precision and smooth surfaces while few machining procedures are involved, which makes the method suitable for automated production. Many cold forged and cold stamps parts can be directly used without the need of addition machining. However, during the cold forging process, due to low plasticity of metal, the material may be vulnerable to cranks during deformation and due to the high resistance of deformation, high capacity forging and stamping equipment is required.

     

    Isothermal Forging

    Isothermal forging and stamping is the method when the temperature of the stock remains constant during the entire forming process. This method is designed to fully utilize the high plasticity property of certain metal under certain temperature or to acquire certain microstructure and performance.

    Due to the fact that in the isothermal forging and stamping process, both the mold and the stock need to be kept at the same constant temperature, the cost is relatively high and therefore this method is only used for special forging and stamping processes, such as superplastic forming.

    For now , copper nickel flanges forging are used hot forging.
